Project: Northumbria University common room regeneration
For this project, Apollo drew up new designs to regenerate of common areas at the halls of residence of one of the UK’s biggest higher education institutions, Northumbria University. Extensive plans were designed for outdoor and indoor areas by Apollo to be implemented across four different sites in the Newcastle and Gateshead area – Glenamara House, Winn Studios, Trinity Square and New Bridge Street.
A blank canvas gave the team the freedom to create attractive recreational spaces to attract new students to Newcastle. Their work included:
- Joinery – building new furniture
- Installation of new lighting systems
- Fitting new carpets
- Plastering
These works had to meet a particularly tight deadline because they had to be completed during the 10 weeks between academic years while students were off-campus. This required Apollo to run all four sites simultaneously – all while coping with the tight traffic restrictions of Newcastle City Centre.
Despite the challenges, the project was completed within budget and on time for hundreds of new students at the start of the new semester.
