Pilot Approved For Groundbreaking Disabilities Trust Project

An innovative Apollo pilot design for The Disabilities Trust has been approved, resulting in a contract for a project that will be the first of its kind in the UK.

This exciting work at Daniel Yorath House in Garforth, Leeds, challenged the Apollo team to refurbish en-suite accommodation for residents with specific needs.

Daniel Yorath House specialises in the rehabilitation of people with acquired brain injury who may have cognitive, physical and/or emotional difficulties.

The residents’ physical and cognitive challenges meant our designs needed to make the accommodation accessible to people with all levels of disability. They had to cater to all manner of complex needs and ensure their independence could be promoted as they work towards recovery.

As a result, this state-of-the-art living area was fitted with:

  • a hygienic wet room
  • replacement internal doors
  • bespoke mood-changing lighting
  • custom-made furniture
  • fixtures and fittings (including blinds, windows and TV) with options for touch, app and voice activation.

The completed pilot was approved by the Disabilities Trust and plans are now in place for Apollo to expand the pilot to 26 rooms in 2021.

Upon completion, Daniel Yorath House will be the only facility in the UK with these facilities.
